CHETNA

Verse 40 of Chapter 18:
" Na Tadasti Prithivyam Va
Divi Deveshu Va Puna
Satvam Prakriti Jairmuktam
Yadebhi Syat Tribhirgune"
No one including the Gods & Goddesses in this universe is free of any of the 3 Gunas prevalent in nature.
These Gunas are Satvik, Rajsik & Tamsik which in simple words translate into attributes that are of pure, mixed & evil nature. All of us possess streaks of good, bad & evil in different proportions & prevalence of one accords us the general recognition in the society to which we belong.
"Sadrisham Cheshte Swasya
Prakrite Gyan Van Api
Parkritam Yanti Bhutani
Nigraha Kim Karishyati"
Everyone including the wise one acts according to their nature. There is no point in suppressing our natural instincts and tendencies.
Our nature which is really a product of our karmas spread over a long period, indeed several births, does not change easily, unless we seek true understanding of the self and conciously try and make corrections, truly a Herculean task. Our elephantine ego is the biggest hurdle in seeking any change. Indeed, this is how we have evolved and this is how the entire living organism has evolved over several centuries.
Man's true nature is not to kill, speak lies, cheat or hurt others. Man's true nature is to Love, to have Faith, to serve those in need & seek true realization of self with an ultimate intention of merging with his source, the Supreme energy. In the course of daily routine we perform several tasks and we often do them in an automation mode. While doing a particular task we are thinking about the next one or something else which is completely unrelated. While performing Karmas that involve thought, speech and action, our awareness will ensure that we perform them with complete knowledge of its consequences. Absence of awareness on the other hand adds no value and we actually end up wasting our time & energy in pursuing that task. Some of us traditionally spend couple of hours doing Puja every morning. While performing rituals of puja, we invariably think of all other things that we required to do except the worship. By this we are actually wasting our time.
State of awareness is not limited to alertness, focus or performance of our Karmas with detachment. It indeed, opens up our horizon of knowledge and helps us to comprehend the true purpose of our life, objectives and how to achieve them.
Freedom is the most valuable possession that all human beings have cherished since times immemorial. Those who remain unaware and ignorant are perpetually chained to this world, to its ephemeral and transient materialism and never ever understand their own true self, leave alone the phenomena that is outside of them.
