WHO WE ARE......

Chapter 7, verse 4 & 5: -
"Bhumirapinalo Vayu
Kham Mano Budhirev Cha
Ahankar Itiyam Me
Bhinna Prakriti Ashtdha
Apreyam It Tu Anyam
Prakritim Vidhhi Me Param
Jevbhutam Mahabaho
Yayedam Dharyate Jagat"
Krishna while explaining to Arjuna, different aspects of His nature and attributes makes a distinction b/w the gross and the subtle and says: -
"Earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intellect and ego are eight distinct components of My gross nature. Another attribute which makes me omnipresent and by which I assume the ownership of entire universe is My power of unlimited consciousness."
Krishna in verse 6 of the same chapter clarifies it further & says:
" Aitadyonini Bhutani
Sarvani Iti Updharya
Aham Kritsnasya Jagat
Prabhava Pralaya Tatha"
"You must know that all living beings are the products of those two sets of My nature and I am the cause of their creation and destruction."
Our body is made out of "Panchbhoot" the 5 elements and 3 other entities known as mind, intellect and ego. In verse 5 He adds another dimension to His being, which is described as His power of unlimited consciousness. This is also known as "Chetna", complete awareness. Indeed this is what shall help us define and understand 'What we are'.
It is important for us to understand that we are an infinitesimal part of this universe and in reality an integral part of that Supreme entity that has been described as the power of unlimited consciousness. Everyone in this world refers to Him as God. We have in us, all those that are present in Him, eight gross features and 'Chetna' the awareness. Our real self therefore is our awareness which everyone in this world refers to as 'the soul.'
Our soul is a permanent resident of this universe and is subjected to a constant cycle of births & deaths till it is fit and ready to go back to its origin, the Supreme power. This will happen only on the strength of our karmas and indeed, with the support of an ideal lifestyle management. Chapter 2, verse 12:
"Na Tveham Jatu Nasam
Na Tveham Janadhipa
Na Chaiv Bhavishyam
Sarve Vyamata Param"
"Never in the past were you and I not present and there never will be any occasion when you, I and these king's waiting to fight the war are not present."
Human body is its visible appearance is gross and possess certain gross components that perform essentially subtle functions. These are largely confined to our senses, mind and intellect. There are five senses that create knowledge and each of them has a gross symbol but the role they perform is of a subtle nature and relates to perception.
