THE QUALITY OF RELATIONSHIPS THAT YOU HOLD IN YOUR LIFE LARGELY DECIDES THE VERY QUALITY OF LIFE THAT YOU LIVE..... IS THAT SO?????

What is the basis of relationship ? First of all, why do human beings need a relationship? Relationships are formed on different levels. There are various types of relationships to fulfill different types of needs. The needs may be Physical, Psychological, Emotional, Social, Financial, Political------- they could be of any kind. Whatever the type of relationship, the fundamental aspect of it is that you have a need to fulfill. " No, I have nothing to get..... I want to give it? " Giving is also as much of a need as receiving isn't it?  Now for whatever purpose we have formed a relationship, if those needs and those expectations are not fulfilled, the relationship will go bad. We may claim many things, but when your expectations are not fulfilled, it does go bad, isn't it?  People are forming relationships to experience a certain sense of completeness within themselves. When you have a good relationship with someone dear to you, you feel complete. When you don't ha...

HOLI: The Festival of Colours

Have you ever thought that there could be a reason why we celebrate festivals? Holi, the festival of colours, is celebrated in different corners of India on full moon day in the month of Phalgun, which is the month of February/March as per the Gregorian calendar. "Holi" marks the onset of Spring. Throwing of colours to each other is the signature of this festival. Therefore, it is often referred to as the Festival of Colours. Mythological , Holi is associated with the legend of the "demon King Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlad & sister Holika." Mythology apart , this festival has a great scientific significance behind it. Holi is a science in itself. Let's trace the science behind the festival of Holi. Holi is played in the Spring Season, which is a period b/w end of winter and advent of summer. In older times or even now also, those people not taking a bath regularly during winter often develop some skin eruptions leading to even severe infections. Also un...

PEACE OF MIND

THE IMPORTANCE OF PEACE OF MIND Before considering why peace of mind is so important, it’s helpful to determine what peace of mind is and what it means for an individual. Peace of mind is a state of being, a state achieved out of mental and emotional calmness. In order to achieve peace of mind a person must have no fears, no worries and no stress. In short, peace of mind is thinking about nothing other than feeling happy and relaxed in the moment. Most people achieve peace of mind when they are completely absorbed in a relaxing activity enough to put all other thoughts and feelings aside; for example, when reading a book or enjoying the company of someone they care about. Different people achieve peace of mind in different ways. HOW TO ACHIEVE PEACE OF MIND Achieving peace of mind is all about taking the mind away from its usual thoughts and feelings, and replacing them with the feeling of being relaxed and centred. With the worries, stresses and strains of daily life removed a person ...

CCET, CHANDIGARH- NSS CAMP 18-03-2021

Today, I was invited at Chandigarh College of Engineering & Technology on NSS Camp to speak on self- confidence and Personality Development. I thought to share this all with my readers also..... So..... I'm going to share the....... Secrets no one ever told you...... Self- Confidence: - Self-Confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strength and weaknesses well and have a positive view of yourself. You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively and can handle criticism. On the other hand, low self confidence might make you feel full of self doubt, the passive or submissive or have difficulty trusting others. You may feel inferior, unloved or be sensitive to criticism. Feeling confident in yourself might depend on the situation. For instance, you can feel very confident in some area such as academics but lack confidence in others, like relationships...

KARMA & DHARMA......

Always count your blessings & consider yourself as a fortune person. Indulging in self- pity is perhaps one of the worst kind of emotions in this world. Do not pretend to become a martyr for an unworthy cause. Also most importantly, never hold others responsible for your misfortune. The Bhagwadgita clarifies the definition of friends and foes in verse 6 of Chapter 6: "Udhredatam Natmanam Natmanam Vasadayet Atmaiav Hyatmano Bandhu Atmaiav Ripuratamana" One should constantly endeavour to raise oneself by performing good actions and must never do anything to degrade oneself. A man is his own greatest friend and his own worst enemy. When good things happen to us, we either remain quiet because we think we deserve them or take them for granted. Negative events quickly invite our ire and disapproval, and we lose no time in putting the blame on others. Our ego prevents us from accepting any fault of ours. We find it extremely difficult to admit that we can do anything wrong. Cha...

MANAGEMENT OF LIFE....

The Bhagwadgita Chapter 13, verse 27 & 28 makes an unambiguous statement about the equality of all beings, and adds further that God resides in every human being without exception. In other words all of us are His manifestation and He treats everyone equal. "Saman Sarveshu Bhuteshu Tishtantam Parmeshwaram Vinashyatshu Avinashyantam Ya Pashyati Sa Pashyati" One who looks upon God as an immortal entity, residing equally even amongst all mortal beings possesses correct understanding. "Saman Pashyan Hi Sarvarta Samvasthitam Ishwsram Na Hinasti Atmana Atmanam Tata Yati Param Gatim" One who believes God to be present everywhere and in every being, never degrades himself. He is in a position to reach his ultimate destination very easily. "Ya Mam Pashyati Sarvartra Sarvam Cha Mayi Paashayati Tasayaham Na Pranashayami Sa Cha Me Na Pranashayati" Whoever sees me everywhere and everyone in me in equal measure, not only is very dear to me, but remains unvanquished ...

FIVE ELEMENTS FOR FIVE SEASONS

The fifth century B.C. Greek physician Hippocrates for instance, declared that a person's health was dependent on the balance of four bodily fluids that corresponded to the Natural Elements of Air, Water, Fire & Earth. The same elemental idea- along with a fifth component - Ether, is echoed in the ancient Indian healing traditions of Yoga, Ayurvedic Medicine and Vastu. This philosophy has held that good health is a result of 5 elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal & Water. The holistic interconnected philosophy can guide us in using the elements to tend to our health. By focusing on each element and its corresponding season, we can see how the five elements can help keep our bodies in better harmony. 1. SPRIND - WOOD: - The element of wood is associated with Spring, a time of birth and new beginnings. "The wood element refers to living growing entities. Trees, Plants & The Human Body."(Elson M. Hass in "Staying Healthy with The Season") In addition to ...

SHREYO HI GYANAM ABHYSAT

Most of us are overly stuffed with material aspirations and want the world for ourselves and our near & dear ones. It is important to seek a balance b/w the material and spiritual, inside and outside, the gross and the subtle and create a situation of peace and harmony all around. Performance of good Karmas must get the highest priority in our scheme of things and we must always show an eagerness to give more than what we take from others. We must also be aware that we owe a debt to nature that provides for our sustenance and leave this world a better place to live in. In order to act and conduct ourselves in this manner, certain basic issues need to be understood. The most important of all is to establish our reputation as good human beings. Being good is a very simple and a common phrase extensively used by practically everyone in this world. Interestingly, while we expect everyone to be good to us, we are little slow when it comes to us being good to others. Goodness comes in a ...

CHETNA

Verse 40 of Chapter 18: " Na Tadasti Prithivyam Va Divi Deveshu Va Puna Satvam Prakriti Jairmuktam Yadebhi Syat Tribhirgune" No one including the Gods & Goddesses in this universe is free of any of the 3 Gunas prevalent in nature. These Gunas are Satvik, Rajsik & Tamsik which in simple words translate into attributes that are of pure, mixed & evil nature. All of us possess streaks of good, bad & evil in different proportions & prevalence of one accords us the general recognition in the society to which we belong. "Sadrisham Cheshte Swasya Prakrite Gyan Van Api Parkritam Yanti Bhutani Nigraha Kim Karishyati" Everyone including the wise one acts according to their nature. There is no point in suppressing our natural instincts and tendencies. Our nature which is really a product of our karmas spread over a long period, indeed several births, does not change easily, unless we seek true understanding of the self and conciously try and make corrections...

The Symbolic Unity Of Nature and Knowledge.

Ardhanarishvara represents the synthesis of Masculine & Feminine energies of the universe (Purusha & Prakriti ) & illustrates how " Shakti" - the female principle of God is inseparable from " Shiva " - the male principle of God & vice- versa. The union of these principles is exalted as the root and womb of all creation. Another view is that Ardhanarishvara is a symbol of Shiva's all pervasive nature. The name Ardhanarishvara means "the lord who is half woman". The conception of Ardhanarishvara may have been inspired by Vedic literature's composite figure of "Yam- Yami"- the vedic description of the primordial creator Vishvarupa or Prajapati and the fire - God "Agni". The Brihadaranyaka Upnishad says that "Purusha" splits himself into 2 parts, male & female and the two halves copulate, producing all life - A theme concurrent an Ardhanarishvara tales. The concept of Ardhanarishvara originated in Kusha...

AWARENESS......

In Chapter 2, verse 38: "Sukh Dukhe Same Kritvs Labha Labho Jaya Jayo Tato Yudhaye Yujasva Naivam Papam Vapsyasi" Treat happiness and sorrow, victory and defeat, loss and profit alike and prepare to fight the battles of your life. You will commit no sin. Reiterating this advice in Chapter 4, verse 22, the Bhagwadgita says: - "Yadrichalabh Santushto Dwandatit Matsaro Sama Sidha Asidho Cha Kritvapi Na Nibhadyate" One who remains content with whatever is received without entertaining any desite, is not touched by a feeling of jealousy, remains equipoise in happiness and sorrow, loss & gain, does not get into any bondage. Every living being in this world wants to be happy always and shudders at the thought of misery or sorrow of any kind. We know that this is not possible. This world with its strong dual nature will confer upon all of us, moments of happiness & sorrow in proportion to the effects of our karmas. Indeed the importance of some rare moments of our h...

"NAVDWARE PURE DEHI"

"Two Nasal Passages Two Ears Two Eyes One Mouth These add up to Seven There are two in the middle part of the body, taking the complete count to nine. The Bhagwadgita refers to the body as 'Navdware pur Dehi'. Our body is a veritable fortress, protected by a thick layer of skin that covers & protects its major part. Every fortress must necessarily have gates to permit easy ingress and egress and an easy contact with the external world from where it has to draw its sustenance. A strong survival instinct guides their operation and each one is either positioned in such a way or has certain attributes that provide adequate protection to them. There is an in - built mechanism in each of these openings which ensures that protection. The Nasal - it is advisable to perform blowing out operations five to ten times during the course of the day. This will achieve 2 things, 1- it will throw out tiny particles that invariably deposit on the inside walls of the nose. 2- it will hel...

WHO WE ARE......

Chapter 7, verse 4 & 5: - "Bhumirapinalo Vayu Kham Mano Budhirev Cha Ahankar Itiyam Me Bhinna Prakriti Ashtdha Apreyam It Tu Anyam Prakritim Vidhhi Me Param Jevbhutam Mahabaho Yayedam Dharyate Jagat" Krishna while explaining to Arjuna, different aspects of His nature and attributes makes a distinction b/w the gross and the subtle and says: - "Earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intellect and ego are eight distinct components of My gross nature. Another attribute which makes me omnipresent and by which I assume the ownership of entire universe is My power of unlimited consciousness." Krishna in verse 6 of the same chapter clarifies it further & says: " Aitadyonini Bhutani Sarvani Iti Updharya Aham Kritsnasya Jagat Prabhava Pralaya Tatha" "You must know that all living beings are the products of those two sets of My nature and I am the cause of their creation and destruction." Our body is made out of " Panchbhoot " the 5 elements ...

Food And Lifestyle

The issue that needs to be factored in with respect to our food preferences relates to eating food, especially fruits & vegetables that are not grown in the season in which they are eaten. Question of affordability crops up here as well and so does its agreability. It has become fashionable to buy expensive fruits and food products grown & produced in far away places in a season they are not grown here. They will certainly not make us yogis and indeed are not in conformity with the ideals of good lifestyle management. There are also now serious concerns being expressed about genetically modified food with predetermined quantity of glucose content especially in fruits. Scientific investigations being carried out, reveal changes in the body's cellular composition as a result of imbibing large quantities of modified food. It only re- emphasizes the natural superiority of the naturally grown food over engineered food of any kind.  Ideally speaking our food should belong to the ...

Food & Bhagwadgita

Food occupies an important place in the lives of all human beings. The nature of food, its quality, quantity, frequency of eating and timing play an important role and hence, are an integral part of our lifestyle management. Bhagwadgita identifies 3 primary characteristics in all human beings and calls them Gunas. These are described as Satvik, Rajsik, Tamsik. Each one of us has these 3 gunas present in us. There are also 3 categories of food corresponding to these gunas & our food preferences. There is thus symbiotic relationship b/w what we are & what we eat.  This is in Bhagwadgita serial number 7,8,9 & 10 in chapter 17: - "Aahar Tu Api Sarvasya Trividha Bhavati Priya Yagya Tapa Tatha Danam Tesham Bhedam Imam Shrinu" Krishna tells that everybody has a preference for food in accordance to his nature and gunas. Sacrifice, austerities and charity are also of 3 kinds & I shall describe to you the differences in them all. Aayu Satva Bal Arogya Sukh Priti Vivardh...

Bhagwadgita

"Dambh Darp Abhiman Cha Krodh Parushyam Cha Agyanam Cha Abhijatasya Parth Sampdam Asurim" Krishna mention in verses 4 the attributes of person with a demonic nature as follows: -  "Pride, Arrogance, Conceit, Anger, Harshness & Ignorance are the characteristics of a person who possesses a devilish nature." Human intellect is is a very powerful and a complex entity but our lifestyles turn's it into a week instrument and further complicates it's complex content. Hundreds of thoughts that enter and exit our mind in the course of a few moments, prevent our focus on work, thus reducing our productivity. We carry such a lot of excess baggage on our weak shoulders that they always appear slumped on the edges. Most of us live either in the past brooding over it or in the future in a mode of anticipatory fear. In that process the present slips through the space in our fingers like sand. All emotions, positive or negative that we experience and exhibit are the func...

Life is about Choices Made

We live our life on the basis of conscious choices ww make and this has an important bearing on the issue of our lifestyle management. The choices we make, the Karmas we perform and the manner in which we perform them has an impact on our lifestyle and its management. We all carry several Emotions, Desires, Sentiments and have varied ways of expressing them. Majority of in some sense, are related to our material aspirations. The possession of mind & intellect, albeit in varying degrees, and our sense of discrimination will not allow us to make a plea of innocence or ignorance of the consequences of our choices with respect to Karmas. The Bhagwadgita in chapter 16, in verses 1,2 & 3 lists out some do's & don'ts for an ideal human being: - "Abhyam Satvam Sanshudhi Gyan Yog Vyavasthiti Danam Damasch Yagyasch Swadhya Tap Arjvam Ch. 16, V.2 Ahimsa Satyam Krodhastyag Shanti Apaishunam Daya Bhuteshu Aloluptvam Mardvam Hrir Chaplan Ch. 16, V.3 Tej Khashama Dhriti Shouc...

Say "Om Sadgati" instead of R.I.P.

All major Hindu sacred texts, including Bhadvad Gita, Kathaopanishad, Shiva Aagamas, Puranas reiterate that as per the cosmic laws, the Jiva atma or individual consciousness, can not be destroyed. It is a reflection of the cosmic consciousness or Paramatma. It is bound by Karma & Maya, and continues its journey from one Janma to another towards final liberation. Jivan mukti, living a liberated life or Moksha emancipation from the cycle of birth into the cosmic consciousness. So death is like a change of clothes for the Jiva atma. It travels from one body and mind to another and continues its journey. It has the same circumstances and resources it had in its previous life in the next life as well. When you say " OM SADGATI" you are praying to the divine to guide the Jiva atma towards a higher consciousness in its next birth. Whatever Karma can be destroyed for the Jiva by performing the last rites and praying for poornatva for the Jiva it should be liberated from that. Tha...
